EMI Music Publishing Wins Multiple Awards

EMI Music Publishing songwriters dominate at the Grammy Awards and triumph at the BRIT Awards 2008.

Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black became an international hit album on the back of the smash song ‘Rehab’, which won Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Back To Black also won Best Pop Album, while Winehouse picked up a Grammy for the year's Best New Artist. Back To Black was produced by EMI Music Publishing writers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi. Ronson also won a Grammy for the coveted Producer of the Year category for his work with Winehouse and Lily Allen, as well as on his own album Version.

Kanye West marked his success with Grammys for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. EMI Music Publishing's long time writer Alicia Keys took home Grammy's for Best Female R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for No One. Ne-Yo’s album Because Of You, which featured songs co-written by EMI Music Publishing songwriter Tor Erik Hermansen, took the Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album. The legendary Cab Calloway, whose catalog of songs including Hi De Ho and Minnie The Moocher is published by EMI Music Publishing, received a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

After this night full of celebration, EMI Music Publishing songwriters celebrated another triumphant night at the BRIT Awards. This is the second consecutive year that EMI Music Publishing songwriters have won BRIT awards in six of the overall twelve categories. The Arctic Monkeys scored a double triumph at the show, winning both Best British Group and Best British Album for Favourite Worst Nightmare. Take That also won two BRIT awards, picking up the Best British Single prize for the second consecutive year, for their UK number one hit Shine and the Best British Live Act. EMI Music Publishing writer and producer Mark Ronson became the first non-singer to win the Best Male Artist award, while Kanye West won the BRIT award for Best International Male.
